Koos ja tükkideks
Together and apart
The end of the year makes one think about things done and things not yet completed. It has been wonderfull 365 nights and days, again. And again, the new 365 is just laying ahead of us. This image above is taken exactly 4 years and 4 days ago in Docklands (VIC).
Funnily enough today's people tend to set themselves apart from others at the same time forgetting the [non-commerce true traditional] unitedness. Who are we? What is your nationality and how is it defined? What is the future of your tribe/nation/country? How will the format of your unitedness change (nation, republic, postrepublic)? To blend in or to resist?

Suvi
Summer
No, that is not a golden autumn. This is the Australian summer, that heats everything day and night, so that the temperature is 30 deg C or more. And even if it does fall, the humidity is high enough to keep up the sauna effect.

Geoffrey Rush
Lavakujundus etendusele "Kui tähtis on olla tõsine".
Stage set of "The Importance of Being Earnest"
Stage set of "The Importance of Being Earnest"
Juba O. Wilde'i tekst on oma algses vormis üpris humoorikas, sellele lisas vaid väärtust hästi valitud seltskond kohalikke näitlejaid.
Kuna etendust ennast oli keelatud jäädvustada, kasutasin võimalust vaheajal. Meisterliku näitlejatöö kõrval oli ka tähelepanuväärt lavakujundus. Põhielement oli suur umbes 6m kõrgune "raamat", mille hiiglaslikke lehti keeras iga natukese aja tagant teener, et luua vastavalt episoodile vajaliku meeleoluga taust. Nii muutus kaminatuba tagaaiaks, see omakorda viimase vaatuse tarvis külaliste söögitoaks.
Pidasin silmas seda etendust juba selle väljakuulutamise hetkel umbes aasta tagasi - kirjelduse põhjal tõotas tulla hea tükk. Ja me ei pidanud pettuma karvavõrdki.
Few hours ago Geoffrey Rush was announced as the Australian of the Year for 2012 for his contributions for theatre and arts. It reminded me how I and E went to see a play by MTC with G. Rush in one of the leading rolls playing an elderly English dame. Even a thought of seeing a play by Oscar Wilde paints a picture of a pretty humorous and entertaining event, even more so if the cast has been selected carefully.
As it was prohibited to photograph the play, I used the opportunity to take a shot during the entr'acte. In addition to the masterfully peculiar skills of acting the setup of the stage was well worth mentioning: the main element of the stage was a 6 meter high book. To create a different mood the giant pages were turned by a servant: the backdrop changed from a livingroom to a back garden and for the final act to a dining room.
I started eyeing the play when it was first announced about a year ago - by the description it was already quite promising. And putting it lightly, it was far from a disappointment.

Öö valitsejad
Night Rulers
Tehniliselt suhteliselt piiri peal: manuaalfookus 1/30s f1.8 ISO3200, järeltöötluses +2 stoppi. Pilvitu ilma korral oleks olnud pea võimatu neid kaadreid saada.
Grey-headed Flying-Fox flying over the tree tops at night. These marvellous animals are living all over Australia: in forests, at the countryside as well as in the citys. For some time I have had an idea to capture some of these flying creatures, and now I managed: larger specimen have the wingspan over a metre, but still prefer to fly only at night when it is cool and safe.
Technically on the edge: 1/30s f1.8 ISO3200, +2 stops in post production. If it would have been clear skys during that night, it would have been almost impossilbe to shoot these images.
Opossum mööda õhukaablit rändamas. Possum walking the wire.

K viimane õhtu Melbourne'is
K's last night in Melbourne
The K's adventures are over in Australia at least for this season and 'the winning of this round' had to be celebrated. We went to one of the tested chinese dumpling places that is on Swanston st. After that we wandered to Southbank to end the evening with a slice of cake and a shot of coffee that would keep us sparkle-eyed on our way home.

Goldie - loomine läbi purustamise
Goldie - creation through destruction

This morning grand master Goldie made a blindingly good drum'n'bass set at the Hi-Fi bar. The Jamaican and Scottish heritage man who celebrated his 46th birthday a week ago has only gained strength in the 20 years during which he has been active in the drum & bass scene. The set that was exactly 2 hours long consisted mainly of the latest Metalheadz releases as well some stuff from couple of years back. The last two tracks were (of course) form Goldie's first album Timeless (1995, released 15 times all together). Positively ironic as it is that album feels still up-to-date hence timeless. After that the volume was turned down and Goldie thanked all the listeners personally and said that it is pure happiness to be active in d'n'b scene at this age.
After Goldie had stepped away from the turn tables I left. Walking home at about 4am I discovered that there are no people nor cars on the streets. Even opossums had disappeared from the parks. Only couple of yellow taxis were flickering in the distance. On the smaller streets in Richmond even the taxis were gone - it felt like walking in an epidemic-ridden city. Ghostly.

Waking up this morning I reallised why I still like House music events more than D'n'b ones: the general sound volume is a bit lower and it does not require one to have developed eardrums that are thick as a sole skin. Still some of the frequencies are cut off and are replaced by constant whistling in my ears.

Probably I've become too old, but it seems to be again one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences as it was with Formula 1.

Akvaarium
Aquarium

Erinevat vee-elu värvides ja vormides on lugematul arvul, olendeid kellel eestikeelne nimi sootuks puudub kindlasti üle poole nähtust-kogetust. Olime E´ga ühel meelel, et akvaariumi (ka teisi peale kohaliku) võiks külastada korduvalt nagu näiteks linna parke, kuna vaadata ja õppida on palju, kasvõi ainuüksi loomade liikumisest-rütmidest. Tõeliselt vaimustav!
There is a countless amount of water creatures in their different forms and colours, probably more than half of the ones we saw don´t have a name in Estonian language. I and E were both sharing the feeling that one could come times and times again to the aquarium (no matter in what city) as people go a take a walk in a city park. There is so much to see and learn, even if you only observe the movements and daily life cycle of the animals. Truely fascinating!

Melbourne like any other decent city has its own aquarium that sits next to the Yarra river. From the outside it is not the largest buildings in the CBD but it is serving very well as home for hundreds of different water creatures.
As the visit to the water world has been on our minds for quite a long time we took a day with E to explore it.
